Born in 1953 in West Bengal. Swapan Polley graduated from the Indian College of Arts and Draftmanship ( in Fine Arts) from the Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata in the year 1977.

He did a special course under eminent artist Prakash Karmakar in 1990. Cave paintings of Ajanta in particular and Indian Arts in general have inspired him immensly.
