Haren Thakur did his Diploma in Fine Arts from Kala Bhavana, Visva Bharati University, Santiniketan in 1975 and a short course on Creative Theatre Designing, National School of Drama in 1980.
He spent his life and nurtured his creative ventures partaking in the core lifestyle of the tribes of Jharkhand. He was trained at Shantiniketan, under the tutelage of eminent stalwart artists like Ramkinkar Baij, Benode Behari Mukherjee, Somnath Hore and many others.
His paintings speak of his intimate touch with nature, the tribal life and its elements from close proximity which he experienced while studying in Santiniketan. Spanning over four decades, he creates the idyllic rural landscapes of Jharkhand through Mix Medium on Nepalese Rice-paper.
He has participated in several group shows. The artist has been the Founder of Chotanagpur Art Research and Development Society, Ranchi, Jharkhand.
