LALU PRASAD SHAW

Born : 1937

Born in Bengal, Lalu Prasad Shaw began working as a painter in Kolkata, painting primarily in Tempera, the artist continues to explore the medium he used from an early age. He spent several years in Shantiniketan, which has had a lasting effect on his artistic production.

Lalu Prasad Shaw drew his inspiration from nature and the environment surrounding the Bengali middle-class. Working mostly in Gouache and Tempera, he is widely known for his stylized human form, especially ladies of Bengal. His Babu – Bibi collection stands witness to it. His technique of synthesising the different elements of stylistic elements create paintings that are simple yet sophisticated.

His subjects Babu, Bibi and Birds have their expression well depicted with his characteristic lines and colours as he lays great emphasis on the physical characteristics.
