CHHATRAPATI DUTTA

Born : 18th August, 1964

Born in Kolkata, he did his schooling from the St. Joseph’s College, Bangalore.

He enrolled in the Government College of Art and Craft, Calcutta; and completed his graduation with Bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts in 1987, and then, he left for Greece for his post-graduation from the University of Athens, with the scholarship awarded to him from the Government of Greece in the year 1988. After returning to India, he did Master’s in Fine Arts from Kala Bhavan, Visva – Bharati University, Santiniketan.

He has deep fascination towards the colonial and post-colonial elements and issues, and his works reflect the increasing consumerist tendency of a developing India. He employs the subtle shades of colours and textures in his paintings, to comprehend the complex issues, moods and symbols through his artworks.

Earlier, he had been a Lecturer in Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata, in the Department of Painting. Currently, he is the Principal at the prestigious Government College of Art and Craft, Kolkata.
