Hailing from Sunderban, Mrinal Kanti Gayen was born on 18th January 1971. Ponds, plant, trees, insects, bamboo-bridges, joyful people and all kinds of natural elements can be seen as the main theme in his works. Spending most of his formative years in Sunderbans, he understood the interdependence of man with his surrounding flora and fauna. That love has transferred beautifully to his creative efforts.
After completing his post graduation from Government College of Art & Craft in 2003 from Kolkata, he longed for an artistic expression close to his life-experiences and inclinations. He first tried out his ideas in ceramics, but soon realised that bronze is his forte.
Notably, his utilization of hollow space and reflection makes him unique in art world. His sculptures are beautiful extension of his sensitive mind in love with nature.
He stands out as one of the most unwavering and consistent sculptors in his field.
