GOURANGA BESHAI

Born : 10th August, 1968

Born in Kolkata, he is a self-taught artist, adept in painting, such that his paintings provide a magnificent notion of realism. He draws his inspiration heavily from Sri Hemen Mazumdar, a significantly prominent Bengal artist, whose artworks used to revolve excessively encircling the lives of women. Just like his inspirer, he too, is mesmerized by the charm of women which convincingly gets portrayed in his works on semi-nude women, and the conviction of his artworks are enchanted by the enticement of fascinating scheme of tempting colours. He always attempts to bring back realism through his works which shall may stimulate the viewers intellect.

Exhibition

(i) He participated in group-shows like ‘Mother Teresa’ by RPG Art Foundation, Academy of Fine Arts, Kolkata, 1996. He also participated in many group exhibitions organized by the Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi; Akar Prakar, Kolkata; Chitrakoot Art Gallery, Kolkata.

(ii) He participated in the annual exhibitions of the Birla Academy of Art and Culture, Kolkata in 2001, 2003, 2005, 2006; Rajya Charukala Utsav 2000-2001; Indian Society of Oriental Art, 2000.

(iii) Solo exhibition at Academy of Fine Arts, Kolkata, 2000; solo exhibition ‘No War’, 2003; solo exhibition in Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai, 2006.

(i) 2005 – ‘Atul Bose Award’, Academy of Fine Arts, Kolkata.

(ii) 2005 – ‘Indra Dugar Samman’.
