AVIJIT DUTTA

Born : 18th June, 1974

Born in Kolkata, he graduated with Bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts from Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata in the year 2000.

His artistic ambit binds varied time periods to multiple contemplation simultaneously in a single canvas. Adept, fine and intricate rendering of watercolors act as his strength and hallmark. He likes exploring the classical, ancient and primitive techniques of the foregone Renaissance period.

Exhibition

(i) Solos : 2000 – Birla Academy of Art and Culture, Kolkata; 2007 – organized by Gallery Art Positive at the Indian Habitat Centre, New Delhi; 2016 – ‘Life is a Deck of Cards’, Kalakriti Art Gallery, Hyderabad.

(ii) 2010 – invited to participate in the prestigious Commonwealth Games, New Delhi, India; 2012 – ‘Miami River Art Fair’, organized by Art Basel, Miami Convention Centre, Miami, Florida, the USA; ‘International Art Fair’, Gallery Ganesha, New Delhi; 2013 – ‘Metamorphosis’, invited by Shun Art Gallery, Shanghai, China; 2015 – ‘Silk Road’, invited to participate by Shaanxi Art Museum, Xian, China; 2014 – curated an exhibition, ‘Lost in Transition: the forgotten art of Letter Writing’, The Harrington Street Arts Centre, Kolkata; participated in an exhibition on watercolour, ‘Tradition & Transition’, participated by Indian and Chinese painters, Kalakriti Art Gallery, Hyderabad.

(iii) 2007 – ‘Gennext’, Aakriti Art Gallery, Kolkata; ‘Devotion’, organized by Gallery Art Positive, at Visual Arts Gallery, New Delhi; ‘A Route to Eternity’, Nakshatra Art Gallery, Kolkata. 2005 – ‘Kaaya O Maaya’, Genesis Art Gallery, Kolkata; ‘Through Another Lane’, Artists Circle, Kolkata; an exhibition organized by Spandan Art Gallery at the Bengal Chamber of Commerce & Industry; 2000 – exhibition organized by the Indian Institute of Cerebral Palsy at the Oberoi Grand, Kolkata.

(iv) He participated in several exhibitions held in major galleries of India, like Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai; group shows by Masters’ Collection Art Gallery and Verandah Art Gallery, both held at the Taj Bengal, Kolkata.

Major Workshops & Art-camps: –

(i) 2010 – conducted a workshop based on the Indian ‘Guru- Shisya’ concept in the Angkor Wat, a Buddhist temple, Cambodia; 2011 – conducted a workshop demonstrating the use of Watercolours on canvases in New Zealand; participated in ‘Kerela Green Art Camp’, a national art-camp conducted for the SAARC countries.

(ii) Participated in a creative workshop, conducted on redesigning of auto-rickshaws, in New Delhi, India, which helped him earn international fame.

(iii) 2002 – ‘All India Young Artists’ Camp’ by AIFACS.

(iv) He held several other international workshops and artcamps in countries like Japan, Hong Kong, Macau, Thailand, South Africa, Tanzania, Kenya, Prague, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Australia, the USA, Cuba and Greece.
