AMITAVA DHAR

Born : 18th January, 1957

Born in Kolkata, he graduated from the prestigious Government College of Art and Craft, Calcutta, and he also completed the teachers’ course from there.

His paintings narrate the formal multiplicity comprised of varied images which are broken and have been reassembled according to individual rationality, where the colours applied compliments and contrasts, compelling the viewers to visualize things through their mind’s eye. He tries to address the unseen and discover the uncanny perspectives through his artworks.

Exhibition

(i) He participated in group-shows and in many prestigious exhibitions all over the world.

(ii) He participated in annual shows in the metropolitans of India and in Tokyo. He also exhibited his artworks in the Calcutta Metropolitan Festival of Arts in 1995; Bhopal Biennial, 1996; the Lalit Kala Akademi National Exposition, New Delhi, 1998; Millennium Festival of Art, Kolkata, 2000; the International Triennale, New Delhi, 2001.

(iii) He did many exhibitions with Aakriti Art Gallery, Kolkata; and Gallery Nakshatra, Kolkata.

(iv) His artworks featured in various international galleries in London and the Tamarind Art Gallery, New York.
