Born in Kolkata, he graduated from Jadavpur University, Kolkata. He was a self-taught and an immensely gifted painter.

An avid globe-trotter, his paintings are greatly influenced by the landscapes of places he toured. His artworks have melting landscapes touching the inner chords of human mind enlightening a spectrum of human emotions. His ecstacy, passion, thoughts and agony are expressed in vibrant colours and brilliant contours on the canvases, manifesting forms to the formless.

He was a member of Painters ’80, a group of Kolkata-based artists.
